Standard: 5.4

ALCOS- Science (Investigate whether the mixing of two or more substances results in new substances (e.g., mixing of baking soda and vinegar resulting in the formation of a new substance, gas; mixing of sand and water resulting in no new substance being formed).





Objective/Overview

Objective:

Students can explain the cause and effect relationships of substances when combining two or more substances.

Project Overview: 

Students were grouped together, and as a group they decided if they wanted to create the inner-sole or the outer-sole of a shoe. In this STEM project, students investigated the properties of materials used in a shoe design by focusing on the creation of in-soles and outer-soles and using slime to create their prototype. They were given the task that they were a shoe designing company that was created shoes based on the basketball players/team criteria such as shoe's comfort, support, grip, bounce, and flexibility.
