Essential Question: How can I use vocabulary and digital tools to persuade others to understand and connect with a new idea or place?
Objective: Students will select three weekly vocabulary words, connect each word to their background knowledge, and design a persuasive multimedia poster in Canva encouraging someone to move to Harlem in the 1920s.
Directions and Guidelines: After reading our weekly story of the week- The Harlem Renaissance, we will have a class discussion about Harlem in the 1920s. We will review the week’s vocabulary words and discuss meanings, synonyms, examples, and connections to what they already know. Students will then choose three vocabulary words from their weekly list to incorporate into a persuasive poster about Harlem. They will use Canva to create the digital poster. Posters must include:
phrases encouraging people to move to Harlem
All three vocabulary words used correctly and visibly
At least one image (graphic, photo, or illustration)
Persuasive statements that make Harlem sound appealing
