Librarian
Amy L. Campbell, MLIS
Why "Soup"?
-If the kids can't remember my name, they can remember Soup. It's fun to say, and it's fun to hear it yelled in the halls when they're excited to see me. Working with kids that are excited and having fun is way better than the alternative.
What's with Mars?
-I've always been fascinated by exploration, whether that be personal exploration or human exploration. I think space travel represents the best of human capability. It simply cannot happen without cooperation, ingenuity, knowledge, information sharing, and a great deal of trust and faith in your fellow humans. Space is cool, space is inspiring, and at a time where the world seems scarier than ever....it's something to reach for.
Why High School?
-The teenager years are so crucial to development. They're finally at the age where they really get to decide who they are. Some of them won't figure it out for another decade or so, but this is really where it starts. I remember how important it was for me to have trusted adults and places I could go to reflect on who I wanted to be and what that would mean for me.
Why be a librarian?
Freedom of speech is the foundation of academic expression and endeavor. Without the ability to freely read, research, and publish on a variety of topics we limit free thought and the opportunity to become better, more well informed people. The library is a place to explore ideas without judgment, both individually and as part of an academic community.
About the librarian
Ms. Campbell has been working in libraries in a professional capacity for over 10 years with experience in academic, public, and school libraries as well as museums, archives and special collections. She believes in the importance of libraries not only as centers of learning, but a place for students to discover information about themselves, their community, and the world. Her mother is a retired Lt Colonel of the USAF. This resulted in numerous moves during her K-12 years. The importance of libraries was established at this time by being one of the few places that provided stability regardless of location. MPS contributed to her education via one year at Brewbaker Junior High School and one year at LAMP.
