Montgomery Public Schools is proud to launch the MPS: Early College Diploma Program, allowing students to simultaneously earn their high school diploma and an associate's degree. This rigorous program provides a unique chance for students to accelerate their education, and gain a competitive edge for future academic and career pursuits.
Montgomery Public Schools, in partnership with Trenholm State Community College, offer the Early College (EC) program to provide eligible students the opportunity to earn an associate’s degree in a specific content area. Participating students will complete their 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years of high school while simultaneously completing their first two years of college as a full-time Trenholm State student. They will graduate with an associate’s degree (tuition free) from TSCC as well as a standard Alabama High School diploma.
Participating students are dually enrolled and able to accelerate their post-secondary placement journey. The tuition and textbook cost for all courses required for the TSCC degree and Alabama high school diploma are covered. In addition to students earning dual diplomas, students receive academic support that fosters advanced learning opportunities, college readiness, and personalized guidance, ensuring a smoother transition to post-secondary placement.
The Montgomery Public Schools Early College provides 10th-grade students with a unique opportunity to simultaneously earn their high school diploma and an associate degree through a structured, supportive program as a cohort. By progressing through rigorous coursework together, students in the cohort develop strong bonds, relying on each other for academic and emotional encouragement as they navigate the challenges of dual enrollment. This sense of camaraderie fosters a shared commitment to success, helping students build teamwork and communication skills critical for future endeavors. The program not only accelerates academic achievement but also cultivates a community of learners who inspire and motivate one another to excel in their educational and career goals.
Montgomery Public School Early College is to open to 10th grade students, from participating schools, who are on track to graduate with their base cohort. Students must have an unweighted 3.0 as a result of their 9th Grade course work. Students who meet the criteria for initial admission will remain in the program as long they maintain the GPA requirement for continuous enrollment at Trenholm State Community College. The application window for MPS EC opens the first Friday of March and closes on the first Friday in April. Acceptance notifications will be emailed during the first week of May. Montgomery Public Schools is committed to providing a high-quality education that prepares students for success in both their academic and future professional endeavors. MPS EC scholars are bound to an academically rigorous scope and sequence, carefully designed to challenge them and foster a deep understanding of academic content. This curriculum includes a wide array of content that not only meets but often exceeds the standards set forth by the Alabama State Department of Education and Trenholm State Community College (TSCC). Through this approach, we ensure that students are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for college, careers, and beyond.
In addition to meeting the graduation requirements needed for a high school diploma and associate degree, our comprehensive curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication. Rigorous academic content is essential for developing these competencies. By engaging with challenging materials and diverse learning experiences, students will be better prepared to excel in their future academic pursuits and careers.
