Biking Starts October 20-October 31
Fourth and fifth grade students will soon be biking during physical education class! Please watch for a biking permission slip and sign and return it as soon as possible. Our school looks forward to holding this unit every year with 4th and 5th graders. Minneapolis is a fantastic city for bicycling, and we want all students to have access to the beauty, adventure and healthy living that Minneapolis offers through this lifetime activity. Students do not need to know how to ride a bicycle to take part in this unit: There will be opportunities for all students to gain bike skills, including those who are brand new to biking. See the graphic below for some bicycle safety principles that will be taught in this unit.
We will be using the MPS bicycle fleet and helmets, but students may also bring their own helmets (and bicycles), if they prefer. We are looking for volunteers to help with this unit, in biking and non-biking roles, and you don’t have to be a parent of a student participating in the unit to volunteer. Please contact Mrs. Bruun (Ashley.Bruun@mpls.k12.mn.us) to volunteer. We can’t wait to get rolling!
