English Language Learners
Collaborative Model at Washburn
Collaboration is an education model that is student focused, and coordinated in order to promote learning in mainstream classroom. It incorporates two or more teachers instructing a group of students with diverse learning needs. It is a service delivery approach for students with an individual education plan who can benefit from general education curriculum or students receiving English Language Learners support.
Teaching strategies in the Collaborative Model include individualized instruction, multiple learning styles, team teaching, weekly evaluation, and detailed planning are all of direct benefit to students. The purpose of the collaboration is to combine expertise of teachers and meet the needs of all learners, by implementing various teaching strategies (e.g., differentiated instruction, shared classroom management, pair/share) in order to increase student achievement. Many students will receive EL services through the Collaborative model, however, some will be advised by their teacher or counselor to take one or more of the courses below.
