PROCESS FOR LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS:

1. First, determine if your LORs are REQUIRED or RECOMMENDED (i.e optional). You are able to do so by:

• For Common App Schools-- when on your application 'Dashboard,' click on 'Application Requirements,' in the top right corner. You will be brought to a spreadsheet that shows what is required and recommended.

• For Non-Common App schools-- look on the college/university's website under their 'Admission' or 'Application' side of their website. All colleges are required to share what materials are needed for a complete application.

2. If your school REQUIRES a letter of recommendation, ask your teacher at the beginning of your senior year. 

3. If a LOR is required, get a signed Letter of Rec Clearance form from your counselor or the CCC. Seniors will work with their counselors/CCC to determine if it is best to send a LOR if they are optional. Teachers will expect to see this form. Keep in mind that many schools do not ask for LORs or they are optional. If a letter of recommendation is optional, teachers will have the option to decline to give them capacity to write letters that are required.

5. After you received the signed Letter of Rec Clearance form from your counselor/CCC, provided it to your recommenders, and they agreed to write a letter you will need to add your recommenders to EACH OF YOUR APPLICATIONS in Xello.
