IB DP SL Chemistry Year 1
Grade: 11, 12 (10 only if committed to Biology Pathway)

This one-year, two-semester sequential course provides students with an in-depth survey of topics in chemistry, including Minnesota State chemistry standards. It also provides students with the fundamental skills necessary to take IB DP SL Chemistry Year 2. The course explores matter, measurement, chemical notation, atomic structure, chemical periodicity, chemical bonds, kinetic theory, gases, chemical reactions, mole concepts, stoichiometry, acids and bases, and solutions.

IB DP SL Chemistry Year 2
Grade: 11, 12
Term: Year Course
Prerequisite(s): A grade of A or B in SL Chemistry Year 1 and teacher recommendation.
IB Assessments: Students are eligible to complete the IB internal assessment and take the IB SL Chemistry exam.
This course is designed to prepare students for the internal assessment and the IB SL chemistry test offered in May. It is a rigorous course with a strong emphasis on refining problem-solving skills and mathematics. Students taking this course should consider a future career in a science-related field. Units of study will include stoichiometry, solutions, acid-base, thermochemistry, kinetics, equilibrium, oxidation-reduction, electrochemistry, organic chemistry, and nuclear chemistry.
