Black Lives Matter at School

Student Shamyra M. applied for and received a grant from Black Lives Matter at School to fulfill her vision of celebrating Black History Month by having fellow students explore different authors and genre in Black literature. Our student Library Advisory Board supported her. Fellow students were able to explore and enter a drawing for books by Black authors of their choice. With books ranging from romance to action, the mission was to change the dominant narrative of what Black stories can be and who gets to tell them. The grant covered all of the entries, so everyone won! A celebration was held in the media center with discussion about the importance of Black authors and literature.

New Spaces in the Media Center

Last year, students on our Library Advisory Board worked with other students to envision and create a quiet study area that supports independent study. This area is separate from the rest of the media center where students are able to be social and work in groups.

We have new furniture for all areas of the media center. A big thank you to our district administrators, Aimee Fearing and Maria Rollinger for supporting our students!

Come in and check out the new and updated spaces!

The Hennepin County Library is now fine free!

All past fines and fees from 2020 and before will be erased from all library accounts, and patrons will not be assessed late fines for items that are returned past their due date. One very important detail is that items not returned will still accrue replacement/lost item fees if not returned 41 days past the due date. (If you return the item within a year of the due date, the replacement fee is waived.)

Your School Account

Our MPS policy is to only charge for damaged or lost books. Late fees do not accrue on accounts.

Books overdue by 90 days go to "lost book fines" and do show up on accounts as fines.

But when the book is returned fines associated with it are deleted. Even if it's been more than a year.

*****Remember, you can check out books by creating HOLDS.*****

Go to our PHHS Library Media Center Website for instructions on how to do this.

Hello, Everyone,

I just wanted to remind you of the African American Registry, a resource you can use to find Written Articles & References, and Poetry & Lyrics, and other information.

The front page has "Today's History", and the "Search the Registry" feature includes finding important historical dates that occurred on birthdates.

Look under the Media tab for "Voices that Guide Us" and "Podcasts".

You can find the Registry on the Student Learning Resources page or at: https://aaregistry.org/

Thank you to everyone who brought books back at the end of the year!

If you still have books out or overdue, please bring them back as soon as you can. Put them in the return bins in the front lobby or outside of the media center.
