The MPS Multilingual Programming Framework sets expectations for English language development support and service for students depending on experience and WIDA level. Each school is encouraged to consult with the Multilingual Department to modify these supports to best suit building and student needs. Parents can receive more detailed information from their students' English Language (EL) teacher.
Support by Level
Newcomer Beginner English Learners: One or two periods of English Language Development classes per day (ESL 1A/1B, 2A/2B). Students may also receive additional supports via a sheltered or co-taught class and may have literacy or math support as needed.
Experienced Beginners: One or two periods of English Language Development classes per day (2A/2B, sheltered, or a co-taught class). Students may also receive additional supports via additional sheltered or co-taught class and may have literacy or math support as needed.
Intermediate and Advanced English Learners: Students will have at least one period of and English Language Development Class (ESL 3A or a co-taught class). Students may also receive additional supports via additional sheltered or co-taught class and may have literacy or math support as needed.
