2023-2024 As a board member for MCTM (Minnesota Council on Teachers of Mathematics), I lead many sessions in MCTM conferences. I am a member of the district steering committee for adopting a new math curriculum for K-12 grades.
I have been in the United States since March 1995.
I believe the primary goal of education is to prepare well-trained leaders who can face real-life challenges with courage and energy in service of humanity. To support this goal, my role is to encourage, motivate, and provide students with opportunities to explore and develop independence in their learning. In my math classroom, I emphasize the effective use of technology to deepen students’ understanding of mathematics. My master’s thesis focused on integrating technology aligned with brain-based learning principles to activate prior knowledge.

I am honored to be your teacher this year. I believe to be successful you must have the attributes of a mountaineer and the attributes of a tree.
A mountaineer does whatever they need to in order to reach the summit of the peak. They do not see difficult tasks as impossible. Instead, they continuously work hard to achieve their goal with a thirst for success. Their confidence helps them accomplish their goal and they don’t let anyone tell them they cannot achieve whatever it is they set their mind to.
To climb a mountain, a person has to be prepared for the difficulties ahead. They take care of their health and their wellness continuously, while working to achieve their goal. And when they do face a challenge, as they will, they keep going. They are tough and mentally resilient.
Climbing a great mountain isn’t just achieved by the mountaineer, but behind the mountaineer there are friends, families and experts that help them along the way. At the end of the day, when they reach the summit, they sit back, take in the view and reflect on their accomplishment.
We learn from our struggles and hardships and get stronger as we go through them just like the metal gets stronger when it is heated at the right temperature.
The second set of attributes that I believe a person needs to be successful is to have the attributes of a tree. A tree gives, it gives shade, oxygen to everyone, and more and more. Even when a rock is thrown at it, it gives back fruit. Learn how to give and don’t just live for yourself.
You can live in the best mansion, have the most expensive furniture and all your loved ones, but imagine what would happen if you didn’t care about your garden. You might get diseases and you might sell the mansion and go to another place. This is why we don’t just live for ourselves. To complete your joy, with your mansion, you should work with your community and make it a better place for everyone and then your garden would be filled with the best flowers and the best trees.
Be the leader that creates changes for yourself and for the people around you. I can’t wait to see you working hard to make the world a better place. And I can’t wait to see the attributes of the mountaineer and the tree in all of you.
