Literacy Goals for High-5

Student can write their first and last name
Students can identify letter names - both uppercase and lowercase
Students can identify letter sounds
Students can create and identify rhyming words
Students will increase their vocabulary
Students can restate and describe concepts from a text

Our literacy curriculum is Scholastic Big Day for Pre-K. Big day has 8 themes throughout the school year. Our themes are, Ready for School, My Family, Our Community, Awesome Animals, Imagine it, Make it!, Growing Up Healthy, Nature All Around Us, and Moving On.

Reading Corp

Each high-5 class has a reading corp member. The reading corp members are trained to help students build their phonological awareness and vocabulary. They work with the whole class and pull out intervention groups for differentiation.

Repeated Read Aloud

Each week we have a repeated read aloud. This is a book we read daily. We go over vocabulary from the book, and take a deeper look into the stories to increase comprehension. These books are related to themes we are learning about which we integrate into our curriculum and daily activities.
