You don't have to redesign all of your activities!
Rethink one or two smaller items such as an exit ticket or graphic organizer and put your new skills to use.
How is this activity put together?
What do you like about it?
What do you not like?
What shapes did they use?
It's even helpful to view an example and recreate it until you feel more comfortable designing on your own!
Sometimes the canvas or slide is defaulted to fit the window, but is too small to see details clearly. Or it may be zoomed in too far and you can't see the whole design. It's common to zoom in and out as you design and make changes.
Zoom in up to 200% to see finer details
Zoom out up to 45% - 50% to get a bird's eye view
These save you time!
Copy = ctrl+c (Mac = cmd+c)
Paste = ctrl+v (Mac = cmd+v)
Duplicate = ctrl + d (Mac = cmd+d)
Drag the mouse around all objects in order to select them simultaneously. You may need to start from outside the canvas and move inward. Change fonts, font sizes, copy and paste multiple items, and more!
But be careful - if you have a background that is not "locked" it will also be selected. Unselect items by clicking and pressing the Ctrl key.
It may be hard to eyeball equal distances between several objects, so use the arrange tool to align or distribute objects as needed!
The shift key has multiple uses:
When creating shapes, hold down this key to create perfect shapes, especially circles!
Hold down this key to re-size shapes and make them proportional
Hold down this key to "nudge" items
Hold down this key to select multiple items one at a time to group or move. Or use it to unselect individual items.
In Google Slides and Google Drawings, you can utilize the extra gray area on either side of the slide or Canvas for extra "room". Use this area to add directions for the activity or house objects to move for drag and drop activities.
