Adding shadows to an object can add qualities like depth, dimension, perspective, realism, and visual interest to designs.
This can simultaneously draw viewers into a design and make it seem to pop off the page or screen.

The CRAP process, otherwise known as Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity is strongly used throughout the design world.
Creating contrast in objects through size or color can draw your attention.
By utilizing repeating patterns or objects, you increase the importance and draw more attention to it. This can also be done through the use of color: using the same colors, or lighter or darker shades and tints of colors.
The position of objects can draw your attention to certain aspects. Is it left aligned or centered? Is it vertically or horizontally aligned?
How you place objects to show their relationship can also show importance. A textbox placed next to an image shows that the two objects go together or several images may be grouped in a corner together.
