Example Schedule and Assignments
Example Schedule and Assignments
The example schedule and assignments shown here illustrate what the class is like. Once registered for the class, navigate to the Canvas pages for the exact schedule and assignments for your semester. They will be similar to the ones shown here, but will probably differ slightly in detail because schedules and assignments are constantly refined and revised. Activities and assignments will be fully explained in each week's learning module. As always, if you have any questions, please contact the instructor.
The example below shows how topics and tests are arranged throughout the semester. The class typically starts with marine geology, introduces coastal oceanography, discusses chemical oceanography, shows the interconnection of atmospheric processes and ocean currents, and ends with the involvement of the oceans in climate change. Two midterms occur throughout the semester, and the class culminates with a comprehensive final. Students complete a project during the last four weeks of the semester.Â
In the example lab activity below, students experiment with waters of differing temperatures and salinity to see how they interact when placed in the same tank. Each experiment involves formulating a hypothesis about what will happen once the waters are introduced to each other. Be sure to scroll through the lab activity to see what you can expect.
