If someone needs to test their private well water, there are two options available.
Option 1: Free Testing (if eligible)
This option is available if the well serves at least one of the following:
A pregnant person or
A child under 12 or
An immunocompromised person
And cost is a concern
Steps:
Pick up a free WellTAP water testing kit from the Health Department.
Available Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Follow the instructions included in the kit to collect the water sample.
Mail or ship the sample yourself to the State Laboratory using the provided instructions.
Wait for us to send you the results.
Option 2: Paid Testing through the Health Department Water Lab
This option is for anyone who does not meet the criteria above.
Tests available and cost (per test):
Bacteria: $35
Nitrate: $35
Arsenic: $35
Lead: $35
Steps:
Decide which tests you want to complete.
Pick up the appropriate sample bottles:
At the Health Department: 303 West Chapel St, Dodgeville (Monday–Friday during business hours), OR
New and for a limited time: At one of the temporary additional pickup locations during their regular hours (see attached). Dodgeville Library, MP Library, Cobb Library, and B. Kurt Dairy in Barneveld have bottles & directions ready for pick up until May 10th so that individuals only have to make 1 trip to Dodgeville for drop-off. After May 10th, individuals must pick up bottles and drop off samples at the Health Department.
Collect your water sample following the instructions provided with the kit.
Return the sample bottles to the Health Department.
Pay for the tests when you drop off your samples (payment is not required until that time).

The CDC now includes COVID-19 within the guidance for all respiratory viruses. The Mineral Point Unified School District will no longer require a 5 day exclusion for those who self-report a positive COVID-19 test.
