Volunteer Code of Conduct
Thank you for volunteering at Seek the Peak and being a vital part of the Mount Washington Observatory (MWOBS) community!
We want to share clear expectations for all volunteers—those who have volunteered for years and are new to the event—to ensure a positive and welcoming experience for everyone involved.
As a volunteer, you represent the Observatory so please conduct yourself with professionalism and helpfulness.
Remember, participants are donors and supporters, and the reason we hold this event. If someone is being difficult, direct them to a MWOBS staff member.
Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor. We understand that events can be stressful, and you could feel overwhelmed, but a smile and a helpful tone go a long way to directing someone to a MWOBS staff member to assist.
Practice active listening and clear communication with participants and fellow volunteers. Being short or rude is not acceptable for anyone.
If a fellow volunteer gives instructions that don’t align with your training or seem unclear, please check with MWOBS staff for clarification.
Arrive on time for your assignment and stay for the entire duration unless prior arrangements are made.
Follow all instructions and procedures outlined by MWOBS staff.
Report any safety concerns or incidents to MWOBS staff immediately.
Abstain from drinking alcohol or using drugs while volunteering.
Thank you so much for your help in making Seek the Peak a fantastic experience for everyone!
