Unfortunately due to the 2 lock-downs this semester the Visual Arts program has been off to a slower start than usual, however our new Year 7 Arts Academy students have shown resilience and perseverance and have produced some amazing work.
Year 7 students began their Visual Art studies by completing a One-Point Perspective Cover Page unit that was designed to explore how the illusion of depth can be created using mathematical perspective. In an effort to increase numeracy, all learning areas at Mount Erin College are encouraged to incorporate visible numeracy tasks within each subject. This is an example of one such project within the Visual Arts.
Once students had added perspective to the block letters spelling out the word ART that they had drawn, they were encouraged to design a fantastical environment in which their word could sit. Students use choose from a range of media to complete their front cover design.

The next unit focused on the Van Gogh Inspired Landscapes. This task included: a research project, a copy of one of his paintings, and an Australian “Van Gogh” landscape.
For centuries artists have made copies of great masters' work to learn about composition, colour mixing and mark making. In the process of copying the hand, eye, and mental visual awareness work together to form a concrete learning experience. Once the process is complete, the student then possesses the ability to transfer these skills to their own work.
These pastel drawings and acrylic paintings are the fantastic result of this skill building exercise.
