In class today we had a test about simple algebra equations and inequalities. I scored a grade that showed I barely met the standard because I barely knew the material. I practiced my weaknesses and improved my grades on further tests. I have been regularly scoring meets and exceeds on tests because I understand what we are practicing more. I have been paying more attention in class.
Today we had a functions test in math. This test was about evaluating how well we knew what exponential and linear functions were. I got a meets grade through test corrections because I refined on my mistakes. Because of this test I now confidently know what these functions are.
My score on I-Ready was 538, which is 8th grade. This score means that I was proficient in most skills. Because of this score, I had a high percentile meaning I tested higher than other testers. I scored the lowest in algebra, and I think this was because of the test being right after summer and me not knowing algebra as well. I scored grade 8 in this domain. By the end of the year test, I want to score in the late 10th or early 11th grade level. I will do this by getting better at algebra and using a positive attitude.
The math one final was a test showing our proficiency in Algebra and other high school topics. I got an A on this project because I got above 93 percent. In the future, I will study more before these big tests.
The Quadratics Research Project was a short slideshow in which we were assigned a partner and had to make an interesting presentation. I got an exceeds on this project because I explained clearly and with confidence. In the future I will practice presenting at home.
Reflection Questions
In general how did you prepare for this quadratics test? What helped lead to your success/struggles on this test?
What percent did you get on your Delta math for the week leading up to the test?
Did you complete the practice test in its entirety?
I prepared for this test by having AI prepare practice questions for me, as I forgot about deltamath. I completed the practice test in entirety, but forgot about the reflection questions.
Looking back at the week leading up to the final, how would you describe your level of focus and engagement during class time? (2-3 complete sentences)
I would like to say that I was not as focused as I could have been. I should have paid more attention during instructions and studied harder.
Considering your goals for next year, how will you handle the next "hard" math unit to ensure you feel confident on test day? (2-3 complete sentences)
I will take photos of the practice test and utilize AI to make me practice problems. I will also practice online with teacher assigned lessons.
What advice would you give a student taking this class next year in preparation for this quadratics unit/test? (2-3 complete sentences)
I would say whatever they do, don't procrastinate and do their homework on time. I would mention using AI to make practice problems.
Does your grade on this final accurately reflect your understanding of the material, or does it reflect your level of preparation? (2-3 complete sentences)
I would say my grade reflects my preparation, I studied but not as well as I should have. I will use test corrections to refine my grade.
As we move through the rest of math 2 this year, what is one study habit you would like to keep and one study habit you would like to toss? Explain your answer. (2-3 complete sentences)
I would like to keep my ability to hyperfocus, as it helps me lock in on a test. I would like to get rid of my procrastination as it prevents me from achieving my best.
I keep trying to say “I’m not trying to teach you math, I’m trying to teach you how to learn.” Reflect back on my lessons and my teaching throughout this unit. What is a lesson that helps you help yourself and truly learn? What was a lesson that didn’t contribute to your learning? (2-3 complete sentences)
One lesson that helped teach me was the review lesson, as it reminded me how to graph. All of the other lessons you taught me have been helpful.
I will score in the Early 9 range of the Algebra and Algebraic Thinking domain of the End of the Year i-Ready math diagnostic test.
In progress
Math One final score of 93.4 percent (A)
