Hello and welcome to my final 8th grade TPOL today I will be guiding you through my journey of the habits of heart and mind and how I have improved on each of them. I will also be covering my lens this year which is Impact and how it has grown and changed since the beginning of the year. last but not least I will recap on group work Reflections. now that you have heard a little bit about it lets dive right in.
Reflection
The eighth grade lens is impact. It is definitely the last lens since we are the oldest kids in the school and are moving on. anyways at the beginning of the year impact meant to me that it is the presence that you have when you are around people and how your actions effect what happens around you. I demonstrated this definition in my escape room exhibition.
claim two
However, by the end of the year my view on all of this had changed. my current view is that impact is the effect that you leave on people and how you actions effect people. an example of my growth in this aspect of learning is my 8th grade internship and my mock trial exhibition. I also have worked hard in participation in group work.
Overall since the begging of 8th grade I feel like there has been lots of improvement in this lens such as my shift in its meaning and my growth through the year.
Impact Evidence
In this exhibition me and my partner river created a series of questions and answers for the mock trial that took place in the LPA court room where he then questioned me as a witness.
This internship was an amazing experience and I gained a lot of real world experience throughout the week. it was awesome. It was a great way for me to improve my impact
For this exhibition we did exactly what the title says. We made an escape room. It was a really fun process and I learned a lot about building and the impact you have on your group throughout the project
reflection
Today I have invited my Aaron to my TPOL because he has been a very excellent role model to me as I have grown up and lived all kinds of different experiences. He is a very positive and happy well rounded person and is also very good with the habits of heart and mind and demonstrates all of them.
He demonstrates respect all the time in his job because he works with all different kinds of people and has to respect the differences that they all have.
He demonstrates effort by working hard everyday to be the best he can even when things are going south that day.
He demonstrates integrity when he is off skiing high alpine peaks in the back country because he must be extremely careful and make no mistakes. and even if the group or he wants to keep pushing he knows not to.
he demonstrates refinement as well because he works hard to make little to no mistakes but when they happen he is always prepared to refine.
I work hard to follow his actions and his morals because I can see that if I make the good decisions early on and work hard I will be better off later in life.
Members evidence
Aaron is very big in the Back Country skiing area and he always makes sure that he is fully prepared before he heads out to ski the steeps and deeps.
Aaron works and it is a tough job that there are a lot of brain smarts needed for the rescue part and such and there is also a bunch of hands on work.
Last of all there is is Avalanche safety course work. this is something that Aaron works with a lot and it is a skill that is very important and often uses all of the habits. It is very important and demonstrates his knowledge of safety and resspect.
Habits of Heart and Mind Reflections
Reflection
At the beginning of the year I believed that integrity meant doing the right thing when nobody is looking and staying true to yourself. an example of integrity from the beginning of the year is holding true to your world and making sure to be honest. Now that we are at the end of the year I honestly don't feel that to much has changed my view on integrity as one of the habits of heart and mind. but I do feel that it means to me know that your are honest to yourself and others and do the right thing behind other peoples backs. and example of this is owning up to mistakes and staying true to your word. in all I have improved a lot in this habit and how it relates to me.
Integrity Evidence
Trustworthiness is super important and it can help people get to know you better and like you more. it also helps people gain faith in you.
This is something that is very important because it helps you gain trust. So basically I'm saying that integrity goes hand and hand with trustworthiness
I tried to do better with integrity this year since I had some rough patches in 7th grade and I do feel like I improved since last year alot.
Reflection
Now effort is what I see as my strongest habit of heart and mind and it has been since I started at mountain in 6th grade. At the beginning of this year effort meant to me basically putting in the hard work and going further than the requirements on projects. It is the determination that you put into your work. by the end of the year though my view on effort has shifted a little bit. Now I see effort as your mindset towards your work and your ability to work hard and get things done. it also means putting first things first. I have lots of examples of evidence that proves this such as my final humanities exhibition and my ready math scores. as well as other evidence.
Effort Evidence
This exhibition was my most recent project and I feel that it is a great example of how I showed effort because me and my partner worked really hard and ended up getting exceeds on our work.
I improved a lot in math and I went from a score of around 512 at the middle/ beginning of the year to a score of around 532 towards the very end of the year. This demonstrates my growth and effort.
This was a very fun exhibition and I picked it because it really represents effort because me and my group worked really hard to perfect our chemical reaction
Reflection
last but not least let's wrap up the habits of heart and mind with refinement. refinement Is a very important habit and I feel that I have grown a lot since the beginning of the year. at the beginning of the year refinement meant to me taking the extra step to reduce and fix work that you want to improve. it basically meant working hard on something over and over to improve it. by the end of the year however my view on this has definitely shifted a little bit. now at the end of the year I feel like refinement means working hard to develop a mentality to rework and better whatever it is you are doing through perseverance and purification. I have 3 pieces of evidence to show how I have grown and accomplished this.
Refinement Evidence
In this test I got an approaching on the test but I worked hard to study and retake it and ended up with an exceeds. this shows how much I improved.
In this exhibition me and my partner worked hard to create the best flying rocket but ended up facing a lot of building changes we tried multiple designs and refined each of them differently until we created the one we wanted to use.
I used this as an example because I am always using refinement when I write essays and in almost all of the assignments that I do in the class. I put a lot of work into this essay and refined it multiple times.
Group work Reflections
Reflection
For my first reflection on group work I am going to talk about ownership. To me I have always been strong in this group work trait even at the beginning of the year. at first it meant to me making sure all work was done on time and ready to turn as well as being honest.
It is one of my strengths and I believe that it always will be as I keep moving on. Even though I am really strong in my ownership doesn't mean that my view has not changed. now that It is the end of the year I see ownership as being responsible and make sure to stay true to your word and not lie.
One example of me showing ownership was the First ELA exhibition about making a Ted talk. I showed the owner ship in this by working hard to know where all of my info was and working hard to listen to everyone's advice on my Ted talk. Another Example was if I made a mistake in humanities or science I owned up to it and worked to move forward and learn from that mistake.
Ownership evidence
I used ownership in this project by making sure to have my work done on time and owning up to any mistakes that I made while working on my project.
This required ownership because I had to be responsible and make sure that I filled out the readers log each day because it was important.
This assignment was an excellent example of ownership because me and my partner had to make sure that we were eaching doing our part in order to be done on time.
Reflection
At the beginning of this year I feel that helpfulness meant to me being there for people and always being ready to jump in on a project and help where it is needed.
I have really been continually working on my helpfulness and my group work in class and outside of class in sigs and in internships. but I still have work to do.
The reason That I feel like I still have work to do is because I really like doing work on my own and don't really like working in groups but over the year I feel like I definitively have grown in this trait.
now that 8th grade is coming to a close I feel like helpfulness now means to be that you are a kind person who works hard and is easy going meaning you work well with groups. It also means that you are always ready to help even when you are not expecting too. overall it has been a good year and I have definitely improved.
Helpfulness Evidence
in this seminar I worked hard to help the group by asking questions and giving detailed answers to keep the talk flowing.
In order to help my exhibition room of people that were presenting in the 8th grade Humanities room I made closing statements to wrap up the exhibition.
In this project I demonstrated helpfulness by contributing to the work for the slides and working hard with my group.
Reflection
At the beginning of the year, respect was often viewed merely as a form of politeness and good manners, lacking deeper significance in friendships and such. and this is kind of how I first saw it.
Reflecting on the evolution of respect throughout the year reveals valuable lessons and insights that shape future practices.
now at the end of the year I see it as having a positive attitude and being mindful and not judgmental of other people. Key experiences throughout the year, such as collaborative projects, have solidified the understanding of respect. Learning from mistakes and successes helped me create a deeper awareness of its significance.
Evidence
I presented to a group of students about my time at ASH and also presented not only cause I had to but to appreciate what ASH did for me.
In this lab I showed respect when I worked with my partners and showed them respect when they were talking about their ideas.
This represents respect because I respected the teacher when working on Delta math and made sure to work quietly and stay in my seat as much as possible.
