I can synthesize my understanding of waves and electromagnetic radiation by collaborating with my peers to create a space themed escape room.

Guiding Question and Background

WORK IN PROJECT - How does investigating characteristics of the various bodies in the solar system provide clues to Earth’s origin and help explain natural phenomena?

State Standards
GR.8-S3-GLE.3-EO.a: Construct a scale model of the solar system, and use it to explain the motion of objects in the system such a planets, Sun, Moons, asteroids, comets, and dwarf planets.

GR.8-S3-GLE.3-EO.b:Describe methods and equipment used to explore the solar system and beyond.

GR.8-S3-GLE.3-EO.d:Research, critique, and communicate scientific theories that explain how the solar system was formed.
GR.8-S3-GLE.4-EO.a:Develop, communicate, and justify an evidence-based explanation using relative positions of Earth, Moon, and Sun to explain the following natural phenomenon: 1. Tides, 2. Eclipses of the Sun and Moon, 3. Different shapes of the Moon as viewed from Earth

Impact

This unique exhibition gives students the opportunity to create an immersive and educational experience for their escape room players. After time is up, players debrief their experience with the student creators and reflect on their collaboration skills as a group as well as the science content they learned.
