Your child will visit the library once a week with their class. Visits start the third week of school.
You can view the class schedule here.
Four-year-old classes: Student will be allowed to check out one book a week during the school year.
Kindergarten classes: Students will start the school year checking out one book each week. As library skills are mastered, they will be allowed to take home two books a week. The timeframe for this switch varies by class, but usually happens after Winter Break.
There are no set due dates or overdue fines at Snail Lake, however most students return their books during their weekly library visit so they can check out new ones. If your child forgets to return their book, a note will be sent home to let you know that your child may need help remembering bring them back. Once that book is returned, they will be allowed to check out another.
We understand that books are sometimes temporarily misplaced or lost. If this happens, please inform our library staff and we can arrange for your child to still check out books while you search. If you have looked everywhere and still can't find the book, you will be asked to pay for its replacement. If the book is later found, you can always return it to the Snail Lake Library for a refund (even several years later).
Need help paying for a lost book? Please contact the library or your child's teacher and we will be happy to work with you.
We understand, and expect, that books may get damaged while in the care of our young students. If your child's book has been torn or written in, please do not try to fix it yourself. Instead, attach a note to the cover alerting us to the problem so we can fix it. If your book is waterlogged, please place it in a zip-lock bag and return to the library. For other damage, return the book and we will do our best to make it usable again. If we can't fix the problem, you may be asked to pay for a replacement copy.
We welcome any questions you may have! The best way to get ahold of the library staff is by email. If you would prefer speaking with someone, our direct dial number is 651-621-8007. Please leave a message and we will call you back as soon as we can.
