About Mrs. (bishop) Latour

I grew up in Wisconsin before moving to Minneapolis to attend The University of Minnesota. After five years at the U and a year of student teaching in fifth grade, I taught 4th grade for two years in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. This is my fifth year in third grade at Turtle Lake and I absolutely love it!

I strive to provide a personalized education and to build a working relationship with each student. I love watching students grow academically, emotionally, and socially. I aim to make my classroom an environment that fosters learning, kindness, and fun.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy drinking coffee, reading, doing puzzles, and listening to audiobooks and podcasts. I got married to my now husband, Zach, in October. We have a cat named Julius and together, we like to explore different restaurants around the area and catch up with friends (many of whom are teachers, too). You can always find me cheering for the Gophers!

Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy of teaching is centered around my experiences as both a student and as a teacher. From elementary school through graduate school, I have nurtured a love of learning that I want to pass to my own students. My own teaching experiences have led me to a philosophy that concentrates on three main ideals:

  • to create an inclusive learning environment that supports collaboration;

  • to meet the individual needs of students through personalized learning; and

  • to provide a positive learning experience that nurtures a love of learning.
