Attendance Policy
An unexcused tardy or absence is when an athlete is not present at a meet, practice or other track related event and does not notify a coach that they will be late or absent.
Excused absences include family related issues, health emergencies or other Irondale related commitments. Work and other sports will be addressed on a case by case basis. A conversation with the head coach will determine if these are excused.
The threshold for a tardy is ten minutes after practice starts (3:40). If an athlete shows up after that point, they are considered absent.
If an athlete records three unexcused tardies, she will be pulled from one event of the coaches’ choosing for the next track meet. If the athlete reaches four unexcused tardies, she will be pulled from all her events for the next track meet.
If an athlete records two unexcused absences, she will be pulled from one event for the next track meet. If the athlete reaches three unexcused absences, she will be pulled from all her events for the next track meet.
GroupMe Expectations
The GroupMe is the primary form of communication for this team. You can use the GroupMe to communicate with the entire team, or certain individuals. Please use best judgment when determining if your message is going to be sent to a coach or the entire group. Messages should only be sent to the entire group if you believe it is helpful for everyone to see it. Communication regarding attendance should always be shared with coaches privately.
Meet/Practice Expectations
1. Arrive on time: Be punctual for all team meetings, warm-ups, and events. Late arrivals can disrupt schedules and cause unnecessary stress.
2. Bring all necessary equipment: Make sure you have your uniform, spikes, appropriate clothing for weather conditions, water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, and any other personal items you might need.
3. Follow meet protocols: Respect meet officials, coaches, and other athletes. Obey all rules and instructions given by officials and coaches throughout the meet.
4. Support teammates: Cheer for your teammates during their events, offer encouragement, and celebrate their successes. Remember that track is both an individual and a team sport. We strongly encourage athletes to stay at meets until the end.
5. Warm-up properly: Dedicate adequate time to warm up before your events to prevent injuries and optimize performance. Follow the warm-up routine
provided by your coach.
6. Stay hydrated and fueled: Drink plenty of water throughout the meet and consume nutritious snacks to maintain energy levels. Avoid sugary or unhealthy foods that could lead to energy crashes.
7. Clean up after yourself: Dispose of trash properly and leave the meet venue in the same condition as you found it. Show respect for the facilities and the efforts of meet organizers.
