"College Intern" Need-Based Stipend
"College Intern" Need-Based Stipend
Mote Marine Laboratory offers need-based stipend funds for Mote College Internship Program participants with financial needs. These stipends are intended to provide partial support for living expenses for a full-time, 10 week or longer internship. The amount of each stipend will vary according to intern financial need, internship duration and the number of recipients. Stipend recipients may be asked to produce a short thank you letter and/or a report summarizing their training and accomplishments.
Eligibility
Stipends are available to interns participating in all unpaid Mote College Internship Programs (participants of research internships that include stipends such as NSF, Mote REU, and MarSci-LACE Programs are NOT eligible). Stipends are limited, and students must exhibit a strong financial need to be considered for these awards. In addition to financial need, the stipend selection committee also bases its decisions on the applicant's experience, career goals and placement in a specific Mote program. Interns from minority groups under-represented in science are encouraged to apply to promote diversity in the marine sciences. Only U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents— candidates having a U.S. Social Security Number—are eligible to apply.
External Scholarship Opportunities
Sea Grant scholarships offer opportunities that provide financial assistance and research funding to students pursuing a career in STEM. Scholarships are specific to state. Check out link below for more information.
The Hollings Scholarship Program provides successful undergraduate applicants with awards that include academic assistance (up to $9,500 per year) for two years of full-time study and a 10-week, full-time paid ($700/week) internship at a NOAA facility during the summer.
The internship between the first and second years of the award provides the scholars with hands-on, practical experience in NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education activities. Awards also include travel funds to attend a mandatory NOAA Scholarship Program orientation and the annual Science & Education Symposium, scientific conferences where students present their research, and a housing subsidy for scholars who do not reside at home during the summer internship.
Hollings Alumni report that the experience influenced their academic and career paths, expanded their professional networks and improved their skills for working in NOAA mission fields. 100% of Hollings Scholars surveyed said that they would recommend this opportunity to other students.
