Honors Choir meets at the same time as Varsity Singers, but must complete many more requirements as they receive increased credit for the class. Below are the prerequisites and requirements for completion of the Honors Choir Course.
Prerequisites: Student must be a senior choir student who has:
Been in Choir for at least 2 years at the high school level (unless otherwise waived by Mr. Brown for extenuating circumstances)
Been an active participant in the Spring Musical, whether as a cast member, crew member, or member of the pit orchestra.
Been an active participant in the Madrigal Dinner, whether as a cast member, member of Ladies in Waiting, or served as a waiter for the dinner.
Maintained a B average throughout their three years of high school.
Requirements for Completion: In order to complete the class to a satisfactory level, all students must:
Audition for the Spring Musical and actively participate in the preparation and production of the show if given a role.
If not given a role, the student must participate as either a member of the crew or a member of the pit orchestra.
Audition for Madrigals and actively participate in the ensemble if admitted into it.
If not admitted into Madrigals, the student must come and serve as a waiter for the show, or participate in Ladies in Waiting.
Audition for the Illinois Music Educator’s Association District #1 Festival Choir in October.
Audition to sing the National Anthem at sporting events.
Prepare four songs to be sung for a grade.
Perform at the Honors and Tri-M Recital in May.
Research and write program notes for the four songs assigned for the singing test.
