The HJF provides access to over 40,000 academic book titles, award winning children's books, popular reading titles, the most current bestsellers, and graphic novels. In addition, we also provide access to a unique selection of both popular, art house, documentaries, and independent films on DVD & Blu-ray. The majority of our academic book titles are not publicly accessible, but through the Discovery Search, you can login using your Morningside information and place holds on the titles you would like us to get for you. Everything else is publicly accessible on the first or second floor of the HJF.
eBooks can come from various vendors, all of which are searchable in the Discovery Search. Using the limiters on the left side of the screen, we can select to only show results for format type, such as eBook.

đź’ˇ A Word on Discovery Search
Discovery Search is fantastic but it does have a weakness - advanced searching. Because each database has specific advanced search functionality, these cannot be imported into any other interface. Therefore, we recommend that when looking for academic articles you focus on using specific databases rather than using Discovery Search.
With the library providing access to so many databases, it can be difficult how to know where to start. To try and ease this process, we have broken down the databases into discipline lists but do remember, databases tend to be more cross-discipline and you should not exclude searching a database simply because it is not listed under the discipline of the course you are doing research for.
To see a full list of our databases, visit our A to Z Databases webpage. Each database comes from a specific company, such as EBSCO, Gale, JSTOR, etc. Often times, we get numerous databases from a single company, meaning they can look a lot alike while still offering completely different resources then other databases we currently provide. They will also have different advanced search functionality designed specifically for the content found in that database as well as the profession/discipline it was designed for. We will talk more about these advanced search features later in the guide.
In addition to these resources, the HJF also provides access to citation guides for APA, MLA, Chicago, and CSE. You can contact a library staff person any time during normal hours, either by coming to the building, emailing us, or by using the chat bubble which you can locate on all of our main pages, these help guides, and a select few of our databases. Most of the full time staff area also available for appointments, either in person or via Google Meet. We also have a large and growing FAQ that includes all of the questions we are asked often about so if we are not available, you can search and find the answer yourself. Below are a select few to get you started.
