Ever since I studied English and was forced to deeply research the in's and outs of Sigmund Freud’s phycological academia and how that related to the texts I was studying, I was always drawn to his more whimsical, dark and farfetched theories on the single most enduring and important construct or idea which is the human psyche. Freud's ‘personality theory’ saw the psyche structured into three parts, the id, ego and superego, all developing at different stages in our lives. These being systems, and not parts of the brain, or in any way physical.
According to Freud's model of the psyche, the id is the primitive and instinctual part of the mind that contains sexual and aggressive drives and hidden memories, the super-ego operates as a moral conscience, and the ego is the realistic part that mediates between the desires of the id and the super-ego.
In this project I will be researching visual accompaniments to these ideas and in depth explanations as well as investigating the people around me and what they believe to be their own human psyche. I expect the problems I will face is turning an academic and intricate idea into something visual and continuing to do this to create an outcome.
My aim for FMP is to visualise concepts which underly in our society and permeate everyone but are unrealised by most people. I will research by watching documentaries on the subject, analysing film characters which encompass one of the ideas and what their personality traits are while unpicking why he made some of his huge realisations.
