What we do

As poverty is the main reason Morkiswa Community Skilling Organization (MCSO) was registered as a Community Based Organization, we carry out a number of activities to achieve the intended poverty reduction plan.

Morkiswa Community Skilling Institute (MCSI)

MCSI was registered to be a one stop center that offers technical and vocational training in motor mechanics, plumbing, electrical installation, agriculture, hair dressing tailoring, fashion and design, welding, building, carpentry and catering/baking. The institute offers both formal and formal education to both girls and boys for a period of one year to non-formal students, and two years to formal students.

Non formal students join from any class, including no class. In other words, students who have not attended school are also eligible for technical and vocational training. They receive mainly hands on training with very little or without theories. The formal students join with O’ or A’ level certificates. They go through both theoretical and practical trainings.

MCSI is licensed by ministry of education and have examination centers for both formal and non-formal students. Formal students are examined by Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board (UBTEB) and Non-Formal students are examined by Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT). Both examining Boards operate under the supervision of Ministry of Education and Sports. Our students are examined and given certificates after their training sessions.

Morkiswa Community Vocational Secondary Education (MCVSE)

Due to public demand by the parents and the community, MCSO decided to introduce a secondary school education. Students who are enrolled in this program receive secondary education as well as vocational education at the same time. All the students in this program must pick a vocational course alongside their secondary education. At the end of their 4 year secondary education, students the students acquire two very important certificates: Uganda Certificate of Education (O’Leve) and Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) Certificate.

The vocational secondary school students graduate with employable skills at the end of their 4 years of studies and therefore able to fight poverty right away.
