Goals for 5th Grade Math;

Operations and Algebraic Thinking

• Write and interpret numerical expressions.

• Analyze patterns and relationships.

Number and Operations in Base Ten

• Understand place value

• Generalize place value to include decimals, calculate with decimals to the hundredths place.

• Multiply and divide whole numbers fluently and accurately.

Number and Operations Fractions

• Use equivalent fractions to add and subtract fractions. Add and Subtract fractions with like and unlike denominators.

• Multiply Fractions; divide simple factions, word problems, fractional area of a figure.

Geometry

• Represent and interpret data.

• Understand the concept of volume.

• Graph points on the coordinate plane.

• Understand properties and classify 2-dimensional figures; introduce 3-dimensional figures.

Measurement and Data

• Convert like measurement units within a measurement system.

• Create a line plot for given data, including fractional units.
