Students in a Tier I program at GSU must complete two main parts: classes that they must take and 250 hours of clinical leadership experiences that they log while they are working in a school/district and while they are taking their coursework. Professors from GSU assist the students with their classes. The mentors' role is to meet with and assist their mentees in planning for for the leadership field experiences and providing reflection, feedback, and support to the leadership lessons learned during the clinical practice.
Tier I candidates must choose a mentor who can guide them in the clinical experiences throughout the Program. The mentor must be leadership certified and currently hold a formal leadership position. In most cases, the mentor will be the school Principal/AP/direct supervisor.
A mentor letter must be signed and uploaded during the application process.
Candidates will also create a 3-5 minute video of a meeting held with the mentor as a class assignment and also provide a link to the mentor meeting in the final portfolio.
