In the United States, Battle of the Books is a national reading competition where student teams read from a pre-selected list of books and compete in a trivia-style contest by answering questions about the books' content, characters, and authors. The goal is to encourage independent reading, enhance comprehension, promote a love of literature, and foster teamwork and academic excellence. Competitions range from school-level events to county and state championships, with some culminating in a national competition.
The Battle of the Books in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado is a reading competition for fifth-grade students where teams read up to 40 pre-selected books throughout the school year and then compete by answering questions about them, fostering teamwork and a love for literature. The program aims to introduce students to high-quality, diverse literature and culminates in a competition at Colorado College.
