Dear Parents:
Welcome to Kindergarten! I’m so excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year. My name is Christine Havko, and I’d like to share a little about myself.
I have been teaching for 40 years. This is my 37th year as a permanent employee of the Montour School District, and my 21st year as a kindergarten teacher. I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and I earned my Master’s Degree in Education with a Reading Specialist certificate from California University of PA.
I grew up in Indiana County, met my husband at IUP, and moved to Robinson Township after we married. Our family has strong ties to the Montour community. My four adult children are all Montour graduates, and one of them, Chelsianna, is even planning to substitute teach in the district this year. My youngest daughter, Rebecca, recently made me a proud grandmother to Baby Nikolas (Nik), and spending time with him is now my favorite part of the day! Our household is a busy one—we have a large flock of chickens, four ducks, 10 cats, a golden retriever, two red-eared water sliders, a bearded dragon, fish and an African gray parrot.
When I’m not with my family, I love to garden, do yardwork, or sit on our swing with a cup of coffee and watch the antics of our chickens and ducks. In winter, I enjoy curling up with a good book and typically have a cat or two snuggling next to me.
