Middle School Course placement
7th Grade Details
CORE CLASSES
These five classes are year-long classes. All 7th graders take the same Science, Social Studies, and Religion. There are differentiated classes in English and Math. Placement into English and Math is determined through your Iowa standardized testing results and your current grades. Placement details can be found in the Middle School Course Description Book.
English: English 7 OR HN English 7
Math: Math 7 OR Pre-Algebra 7 OR HN Geometry
Science: Science 7
History: Geography / Civics
Religion: Religion 7
*All 7th take the same Science, History, and Religion.
ELECTIVE
If you are in band this year, you will be enrolled in band for middle school. If you did not participate in band, you will be in PE. If you are interested in participating in band in middle school and weren’t in band in elementary, we are happy to adjust your schedule!
Intermediate Band OR

EXPLORATORY
This is a quarter-long class. Please use the survey below to rank your exploratory options. Placement in explanatories is based on availability. Our goal is to place students in at least a couple of their top ranked choices. The survey includes exploratory classes from the past few years as well as descriptions. Class offering change every year and are based on student interest and teacher availability.
Archery- learning the safety and skill of shooting a bow and arrow.
Art- explore different types of art making including painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Debate- researching topics and creating constructive speeches and rebuttals.
Faith in Film- watching and discussion films with faith based topics.
Forensics- use the scientific method to help find facts of fictitious crimes.
Game Theory- learning the strategy behind board games and how to WIN! *NEW for 2024-25*
Geo-Cities- using math to design and build 2D and 3D architectural models like zoos, cities, and water parks.
Maker Space- creative problem solving to life's little problems. Using the Maker Space Lab with 3D printers, laser cutters, and more!
Life Comp- small life skills- study habits, budgeting, cooking, etc.
Spanish- introduced to the language, vocabulary, grammar, geography, culture and food.
Stock Markets- learning how to use and invest in the stock market while playing The Stock Market Game.
Team Sports- learning the rules and game play of team sports
Yearbook- photography and layout design that builds the yearbook
