Teacher Learning Plan
Growth Focus
The Teacher Growth component emphasizes professional development and action research in an area that enhances student growth in a teacher’s classroom. After their first year in the district, teachers follow a Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle to build a teacher growth plan that enhances teacher growth resulting in higher levels of student success.
Plan-Do-Study-Act Cycle
To follow the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle, teachers can use these questions to help develop their learning plan.
What is something I want to learn more about in order to grow in my teaching?
How do I know I need to grow in this area or why is this an area of interest? (informed decision making)
What will I do to grow in this area and what leads me to believe this action will result in positive growth/change? (research)
What am I currently doing?
What are the processes that I’m using?
What can I change/grow to continuously improve?
What is my action plan for accomplishing this growth or change? (action/implementation).
What is my plan for checking progress? (progress checks of actual plan effectiveness)
How will I know I’ve grown in this area or that the change was an improvement? (measurement that provides baseline and growth information)
What is my accountability to growth?
The final piece of the growth plan includes meeting with the teachers building administrator to review the desired outcome, actions taken and results. This portion of the plan serves as the efficacy check of the growth component.
The Montevideo Teacher Learning Plan has been developed to encourage and support individual growth, encourage individuals to challenge themselves, and provides a safe environment and structure to form and implement innovative ideas. The step by step guide below is provided to aid in developing the Teacher Learning Plan.
Below are samples of Learning Plan Forms used by teachers in the Montevideo District in the past. Feel free to look at these plans as examples.
Learning Groups will meet during Fall Workshop and on scheduled early out days to share their action research and review progress of members. Learning groups members will be groups of 3-6 individuals who have a similar, but not necessarily identical, focus for their learning plan.
During Fall Workshop, teaching staff will be provided with time to determine their focus for the Teacher Learning Plan.
For the September Early Out, provide your TLC a summary of your learning focus, proposed action plan, and assessment plan as written above.
Before the October TLC, review your learning focus with your principal before starting action steps.
From November through April, use TLC time to continue researching and working on your focus area.
In May, share your plan and results with your learning team and plan for meeting with your administrator.
