The Middle Ages, also known as the medieval period, spanned roughly from the 5th century to the 15th century and was a time of profound changes in Europe and other parts of the world. It was characterized by the predominance of the feudal system, where society was divided into social classes and power was decentralized. The Catholic Church had a significant influence on all aspects of life, from politics to culture and religion. Additionally, there was a revival of culture and learning in the Carolingian Renaissance and the subsequent expansion of universities and centers of study. The Middle Ages also witnessed significant events such as the Crusades, which had a lasting impact on society and international relations of the time.
