40 Book Challenge
TK-5th
TK-5th
The 40 Book Challenge is a personal reading journey, not a contest or assignment. The goal is to help you grow as a reader by exploring new books and genres for fun and personal enjoyment.
Guidelines & Tips:
This is independent reading—read what interests you!
Take the Genre Personality Quiz to discover what genres you might love.
Be adventurous: try new genres, authors, and series.
Get recommendations from your teacher or librarian.
Choose books that challenge you and fit your grade level.
Share your reading through discussions, book clubs, or buddy reads.
Support and inspire each other to read beyond your comfort zone.
While there is no reward for completing this challenge (other than personal growth and a sense of accomplishment), we do want to celebrate each milestone a student reaches in their reading journey.
For every 10 Book milestone, students who are taking on the 40 Book Challenge will get to celebrate at the library.

Any form of reading counts, including physical books, audiobooks, digital books (Sora, epic!, myON, Raz-Kids, TumbleBooks, etc.) and being read to.
Students in TK through 3rd grade can track their reading using a printable paper log.
This log allows younger readers to write down each completed book and helps build ownership and habit.
Use the paper reading log to track your progress—one sheet covers 10 books over 10 weeks (1 book per week).
Each sheet includes suggestions for genres and themes to help you choose what to read. A blank version is available.
After finishing a book, illustrate and color in the background of that section on your log. Make it your own!
Teachers may cheer you on, but this is your reading journey. Have fun and read on! 📚✨
Drop off your reading logs at the library by the end of each month so we can update the charts on your reading progress.
Students in 4th and 5th grade will log their completed books on Bookopolis, where they can rate and review what they read.
To get started, students must also join the 40 Book Challenge Google Classroom, which will be used to sync the student roster in Bookopolis.
Visit the How To page for more instructions on how to use Bookopolis.
For each book, write a short review (at least 50 words). Share your honest thoughts—Did you like it? Hate it? What was your favorite part? Would you recommend it to a friend?
Only include books you’ve read during this school year.
Submitting a large number of reviews in a short time (like more than 1 book per day or 100 in one month) may raise concerns and could disqualify your entries.
Teachers may cheer you on, but this is your reading journey. Happy reading and reviewing! 📖🌟
