Welcome to Honors 10 Unit 2, Lesson 1 (2.1)! In this lesson's objective...

The speaker of “The Gathering Place” celebrates how the members of her community work together to fight injustice. Students will read this poem alongside the Rámáyana to compare and contrast how the authors use different poetic forms to convey a message about what it means to create positive change in a community. These texts will also provide students an opportunity to consider how a person’s culture affects his or her understanding of the world and shapes their role in it. These texts will be read an analyzed alongside The Alchemist pages 1-27.

  • Read and take notes on the anchor text pages 1-27 in preparation for Socratic Seminar #1 on Tuesday - Wednesday, October 20-21 (M)

  • Planner check on Monday - Tuesday, October 12-13 (in class) (M)

  • Blast: Ancient Answers (M) suggestively due by Tuesday, October 20 on StudySync

  • Poetic Structure and Elements (A) taught in class on Monday- Tuesday, October 12-13, due by Tuesday, October 20

  • Read and Discuss the following texts on Wednesday-Thursday October 14-15

    • "The Gathering Place" and "Ramayana"

  • Media (S) on StudySync with the Visual Poem Project (S) - Due by October 27 with presentations on Wednesday- Thursday October 28-29

***Notes on Lesson 2.1***

  • All of the assignments should be completed and turned into StudySync, except for the Visual Poem Project which should be turned into Google Classroom

  • The 1st Socratic Seminar will be on Tuesday - Wednesday, October 20-21 and the focus will be: How does Santiago communicate with his sheep?

  • Turn in a picture of your Socratic seminar preparation notes to Google Classroom by October 20.
