Focus:
The focus will be driven by Parent/Guardian questions, components of the G.Suite for Education applications that your child is using, and information garnered from the Distance Learning Request Form.
Students are required to attend all regularly scheduled classes, and attendance will be taken. Per state guidelines, teachers are required to provide daily live instruction in conjunction with small-group, project-based, or independent learning.
Make sure your student(s) abide(s) to the daily MUSD learning schedule, and remember it is important to identify an at-home learning space. Ideally, this space should have:
Internet access
A computer, iPad, Chromebook, or other device
Good lighting
Ready access to learning materials and tools
A dedicated learning space for virtual learning should ideally be located in a shared area of your home such as at the kitchen table, a large kitchen counter, or a desk in a living room or family room. When your student's learning space is separate from their bedroom and distanced from the television, it sets the expectation and tone that the space is for work and not play. Additionally, an online learning space in a shared area allows parents and guardians to readily support learning while also monitoring online activity.
All MUSD students have Google Suite for education accounts that include access to Google Classroom. Students should check these accounts every day for communication from their teacher(s) about the daily learning expectations. Elementary aged students may need help checking their Gmail account or Google Classroom for messages. Educators will also communicate with students about how to share their learning. Students may be asked to:
Complete a Google Quiz;
Turn in a Google assignment (Google docs, Google Slides, Google Forms, Google Sheets);
Take a picture of their work and upload it to Google Classroom;
Record a video that shows how they are able to do something;
Email a message summarizing their learning;
There are are many possibilities for how teachers might invite students to share their learning. Parents and caregivers should be sure they know what their children's teacher(s) expect and then support their student as needed.
Meaningful learning engagement online will not require a big shift in the ways teachers share student progress or in the ways parents and caregivers can check on their child's progress.
Practical Tips for Checking Student Progress:
Email from MUSD principals and teachers
Updates from MUSD via ParentSquare and Robocall Updates
Google Classroom Guardians receive daily/weekly email with Google Classroom summary

When MUSD students are asked to engage in online learning due to circumstances that require school buildings to close, the District recognizes that this can pose a hardship on many families. Although students may be restricted from going to school, there is no guarantee that parents and guardians are able to work virtually from home and therefore be able to supervise their children. MUSD parents and caregivers are encouraged to think about ways they can support one another.
Please remember that Google Classroom is the primary hub for educational materials and communication with MUSD teachers. However, if you are looking for additional resources to support student learning and at home enrichment, consider the following links*:

MUSD wants to support the best use of technology to support teaching and learning. We value the partnership of parents and caregivers when learning occurs outside of the school building. As on ongoing measure to protect the well-being of our students, we encourage parents and guardians to conduct a daily monitoring of student communication on distance learning platforms (including, but not limited to Google Suite for Education tools, Nearpod, etc.) As an important reminder, all students and adults using MUSD technology platforms must adhere to the expectations set forth in the MUSD District Acceptable Use Policy . In general, students and adults should be sure to:
Use respectful behavior and language.
Stick to appropriate topic discussions.
Send only appropriate video transmissions.
Use only appropriate icon, emoji, and avatar submissions.
Wear school appropriate clothing if attending meetings via video or creating a video.
Be honest and use academic integrity by not plagiarizing or copying others’ work
Not falsify information about oneself or impersonate others online.
Remember to act kindly, show consideration for others, and treat one another online as they wish to be treated in person.

Information coming in the near future from the Technology Department
District Chromebooks are allowed to connect to home and public WiFi networks. MUSD Technology Department is unable to provide support for home networks.
However, here are a few basic troubleshooting steps you can try before checking with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or network hardware manufacturer’s website for support documents and links.
Restart your computer or mobile device.
Make your wireless router has a WiFi switch, make sure it is turned on.
Try disconnecting and reconnecting to your home WiFi network again.
Ensure that you are entering the correct WiFi password.
If your other devices cannot connect, try restarting your WiFi router.
Try connecting to another wireless network such as a coffee shop WiFi network or public library WiFi network and see if you can connect successfully.
Other considerations:
Microwaves can interfere with WiFi signals. If you find that your connection slows down or gets disconnected when a Microwave is running, upgrade to a dual band wireless router capable of 5 GHz frequency.
If you are still unable to connect to your home WiFi, please check with your ISP or network hardware manufacturer’s website for support links.
