The Monroe Township Board of Education policy requires that all students who need medication during school hours must do the following:
The Medication Dispensing Form must be completed and signed by both the student’s healthcare practitioner and parent/guardian.
Medication means all medications: prescription and non-prescription (over the counter) including Motrin, Advil, Tylenol, Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, Tums, cough drops, creams and ointments.
All medication, prescription or non-prescription (unless a healthcare practitioner approves self-medication for life threatening illness) must be brought to the school by the parent/guardian or an adult designated by the parent/guardian. Students are not permitted to carry medication on the bus, in their backpack, lunchbox or pockets.
All prescription medication must be in the original containers, with the prescription information affixed. Over-the-counter medication must be in the container with the manufacturer’s original label.
Students with life threatening illnesses must also have the following forms completed by their healthcare provider and parent: Asthma Treatment Plan, Anaphylaxis Emergency Care Plan, or Seizure Action Plan.
Any unused medication must be picked up by the student's parent/guardian by the end of the school year. Medication will be discarded by the nurse after reasonable efforts to have the parent/guardian retrieve the medication have failed.
