My name is Terry (Ferguson) Simpson and I run a Facebook good news page about everything in Monroe County called My Roe. My Roe was a dream I had. I wanted to show off all of the good things about Monroe County while doing things that I love and am good at. I began taking pictures and writing stories and sharing them with the community. It actually took off very quickly. I absolutely love everything about it and enjoy my work very much.
There is an old saying, “If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.”
I have loved writing since I was a very young child and had several writing classes and a photography class in school (complete with a dark room and developing pictures). It would be many years later before I ever put either of those skills to use. I never believed I would start my own business and I certainly never believed it would go this far.
Growing up I was very shy. I now stand and speak in front of crowds. I am confident in my abilities. I am talented, I am capable. And I know that you are too. I know you can do anything you put your mind to, even if it seems impossible.
I would love to see someone chase their dream much sooner than I did and I hope this scholarship makes that possible.
My parents, Bobby and Barbara Ferguson, founded this scholarship in 2023. They were very proud of all the things I have done with My Roe and have been huge supporters of the page.
This scholarship is open to any Monroe County senior, with the amount varying each year. Applicants do not need to be pursuing college. Tell us about the business you would like to start or a trade you are interested in. This may be as short or as long as you would like. We do not have any guidelines; we just want to hear why you love what you want to do. We understand that not everyone is able to write an essay so you may make this as simple as you please, even sending a video if you prefer. You may also add in something from a parent on why they are proud of you. Anything regarding photography or writing is a plus.
Thank you for your interest in this scholarship.
