This course develops scientific knowledge, management practices, and marketing strategies in small and specialty animal technology. The curriculum includes identification, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, health, selection, and care of small animals. Species addressed typically include dogs, cats, rabbits, companion birds, ostriches, emus, tropical fish, and furbearers.

Learning Objectives
Interpret proper animal science terminology for livestock and companion animals.
Interpret proper terminology for the food animal industry.
Differentiate the common food animal species and their specific breeds.
Select and evaluate food animal livestock species according to current industry standards.
Apply principles of reproduction to food animal production.
Apply principles of digestion to food animal production.
Formulate livestock feeding programs that meet nutritional requirements.
Identify common animal health problems.
Describe and compare the physiology and anatomy of small animal species.
Describe and compare the process of reproduction of small and specialty animal species.
Relate the anatomy and physiology of the digestive systems of small and specialty animals to proper nutritional practices.
Describe the care, handling, sheltering, and grooming of small and specialty animals.
Investigate both diseases and parasites and plan a health maintenance schedule in small and specialty animals.

2 times not having a pencil is acceptable. After 2 times of not having a pencil then you will be written up.

Assignments turned in on time
Tardy slips will be written to anyone coming into class late without proper documentation showing a reason for being late.
Destruction of this classroom is unacceptable and will result in immediate disciplinary action.
Tearing keys or busting a Chromebook that belongs to the school is not wise.
Writing/carving on walls, desks, tables, floor, door, ceiling is not acceptable.
Gum is placed in trash can and nowhere else
Throwing objects of any kind is not accepted
CELL PHONE POLICY
School Wide initiatives to cut down on cell phone use in the classroom will require students to deposit their phones in a designated area within the classroom
If you fail to follow this procedure and have your phone out in class, I will confiscate it. You will not receive your phone back until after the advisory that day.
If I take your phone more than twice then you will be written up and proper measures taken according to the student handbook.
New rules may be introduced and altered due to classroom conditions and actions. If I see there is a need for a new rule in a classroom I will make the necessary changes to meet that need.
Absences: If you have a planned absence from school, please notify me in advance and I will give you the upcoming assignments. It’s always best to make up your work before you leave. If you have an unplanned absence from school, please see me immediately upon your return to class to obtain any makeup work. Students may take missed summative assessments only in tutoring (before or after school) or during Falcon Block. I will not hunt you down to get you assignments. It is your responsibility to take care of your grade.
School Policies: Any rule stated in the Student Handbook is, of course, a rule in this classroom as well. Please be very familiar with all school rules and policies.
