When schools, parents, students, or social service agencies recognize a student is at risk, they can make referral to our Student Assistance Program (SAP). SAP provides a Liaison who will work with the schools and that student.

We refer students to supports and services designed to help them overcome learning barriers, remain enrolled in school, and become successful citizens in the community. Services provided by SAP include:

  • Screenings for mental health, drug, alcohol, and/or suicide concerns

  • Referrals to community resources and guidance with accessing applicable services

  • Prevention, intervention, and/or educational support groups

  • Grief counseling and supports for students and staff following a traumatic event in the school or community

SAP, a requirement of all PA schools, was designed to assist parents and educators in helping students achieve a more successful school experience. SAP is a free and confidential support for all kindergarten through twelfth grade students.

A student can be referred by the core team (school personnel), parent, teacher, or a social service agency.

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH REHABILITATION

Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services (BHRS) or “Wrap Around Services” are designed for children in the state of Pennsylvania who are between the ages of 2 and 21 and meet the criteria for Medical Assistance. The child must also have a primary psychiatric diagnosis, and be at risk for a more restrictive placement.

The goal of Wrap Around Services is to support the child in his or her natural environment (home, school, community) with behavioral interventions overseen by a Master’s Level Clinician. The intensive short-term services will work to transfer the necessary skills to the primary care-giver, and allow for the child to function with his or her natural supports.

Our Service Coordinators can help initiate a referral for Wrap Around Services and also provide ongoing collaboration between the schools, mental health professionals, and service providers to ensure appropriate services for your child and family.

Check the county listing for the services available in your area.

Child & Adolescent Service System Program

Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP) is a comprehensive system of care for children and adolescents with or at risk of developing serious emotional disturbance and/or substance use disorders.

This program ensures that services are developed in collaboration with the child/adolescent, family, mental health system, the school, and all other agencies involved in the child or adolescent's life.

What Is CASSP?

CASSP is a team approach to helping children and their families. A CASSP Coordinator works with the child and family to build/pick the team and then helps to coordinate a meeting.

During the meeting, the teams work together to:

  • Coordinate services

  • Develop a coordinated plan to keep children at home and in their communities

  • Discuss long-term and short-term goals to meet the child's mental health needs

  • Explore and identify services

  • Identify and build on the child's strengths

  • Solve problems
