The course deals with concepts and issues on population and socio-economic development. Among the main issues are the theoretical perspectives on population- development relationship, characteristics of population; components of population change; perception and behaviour; implications of quantity and quality of population for the environment and development; population and sustainable environment for development; effects of selected activities on the environment at the macro and micro scales; national population policy NTCEF; NTS 1 b p 12, 2 b and 2 c p 13
This course is designed to help students develop the knowledge, understanding, skills, values and attitudes that will enable them teach environmental and social studies effectively in primary schools in order to promote learning and achieve quality students outcomes. it examines the major approaches to instructional design in environmental and social studies, and the general principles, methods, techniques and strategies of achieving effective teaching, with particular focus on the teaching of Environmental and Social Studies at the primary school level.
This course is developed to train teachers who could teach students to appreciate and solve the emerging environmental and social issues that negatively affect our communities. These issues are grounded within the social, economic and political spheres. Many of these issues are as a result of certain misconception and attitudes that negatively affect our communities. This course is, therefore, design to equip teacher-trainees with the appropriate knowledge, skills and values to enable them to assist learners to live well as responsible citizens who have adequate knowledge on the social, economic and political issues in Ghana.
This course seeks to introduce students to the fundamentals of conflict management and peace building in our communities. It further looks at theories of conflict management and peace building and considers their application in real life situations. The students would be introduced mediation and arbitration techniques in conflict management. Further, the course tackles ethnic conflicts in Ghana and their ramifications on socio-economic development in Ghana.
The course intends to introduce student teachers to the intersection between Ghanaian identity, culture and arts. This course aims at helping student teachers to understand diverse cultural elements of Ghana. It also focuses on supporting student teachers’ appreciation of the various vocations and artistic expressions of Ghana. This course also aims at helping student teachers to appreciate the importance of the arts and culture in the expression of our national identity. The course will also focus on aspects of equity and inclusivity to enable student teachers connect with diversity in the teaching of the course. The student teachers will be able to help students to understand their Ghanaian identity, culture and arts and appreciate the need to promote Ghanaian identity through expression of our culture and arts.
