When pitching a video, think of how visual it can be before doing so. Videos should mainly be led by actuality and action, rather than talking heads. The stories should bring a sense of purpose as if they're taking the viewer on a journey. If they also manage to have a sense of hope, that's even better.
These are some of the features we are betting on:
Stories with a unique angle
Before you pitch, has Mongabay covered it before? We may have covered it in an article, but not in a video. Why would it be interesting to do so?
Mongabay has a special focus on local communities and Indigenous people facing environmental issues.
Bring to light stories and information that should be in the public domain.
Stories that inspire others and provide solutions at a local, regional or national level.
Analyze and break down complex topics to make them accessible to all audiences.
What is conceptually interesting might not be the best candidate for a video. That said, creativity is key when trying to convey abstract concepts. Anything can be made visual if we think about it during the pitch process.
