FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a cost associated with Dual Enrollment?

    • Yes. Although the current $46 per unit tuition fee is waived, there are other fees such as health fees, students fees, textbooks, etc. that students and their families are responsible for paying.

How can I participate in Dual Enrollment?

Where are classes held?

    • Classes are primarily held at local high schools that participate in Dual Enrollment. However, they can also be held online or at an MJC campus.

Can I take an MJC class if I am undocumented?

What is the maximum number of units I can take?

    • Up to 11 units. If you register for 12 or more units, the tuition waiver will be voided and you will be required to pay FULL tuition.

What classes do you recommend I take?

How do I know when I can register for classes?

    • You should receive an email from MJC (to your MJC email) when your registration date and time is. If you cannot find an email, you can check when it is on PiratesNet.

Will my MJC classes transfer to a CSU, UC, or another 4-year?

    • It depends. Most 100 and 200 level classes are transferable to most CSUs and UCs. Always check with the admissions or evaluations department at the university you would like the courses to transfer to.

What are the benefits of taking MJC classes while still in high school?

    • It gives you the opportunity to begin college early, master college-level coursework, and learn how to navigate the college environment.

Is there anything else I should be aware of?

    • Grades earned in dual enrollment courses will be on the students' permanent record and college transcript. Poor grades in these courses can hurt the students' chances of receiving financial aid as well as their eligibility to enroll in a 4-year college or university.
