Project Abstract:
The Library Learning Commons, which includes an Innovation Center, focused on advancing student engagement, promoting literacy, and encouraging innovation for all Hanshaw Middle School students. Flexible and comfortable furniture allowed students, teachers, teacher librarian, and *TRIO tutors to utilize the library space more effectively for reading, research, presentations and tutoring. The updated fiction collection and book promotions supported the school wide effort to improve literacy through independent reading and book choice. Finally, the Innovation Center inspired students as creators, provided access to current technology and created an opportunity to pursue personal interests.
*The TRIO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program is a Federal program funded by the U.S. Department of Education and administered by Modesto Junior College.
Due to COVID these in person activities and events are on hold and will continue when school resumes face to face and safety protocols allow use of these innovation elements. We hope to be back to business as usual in August 2021.
