The problem
Islamic and Asian Civilization is one of the General Studies U1 Units offered to undergraduate students (Malaysians). However, we faced some challenges in engaging students to learn the Unit, resulting in a low Student Evaluation of Teaching and Unit (SETU) score. The Malaysia Immersion and Pathways addressed this issue in several ways, and one of the most significant efforts was reinventing the digital learning experience using the Guroo SCORM package.
The Digital Learning Resource
The Guroo SCORM package provides an interactive and engaging online learning experience that aligns the learning outcomes with concepts and applications while incorporating an active learning approach in a digital platform. The module has interactive features and the ability to provide feedback based on individual learners' performances which encourages ongoing improvement in students' learning and achieving the intended learning outcomes.
The impact
The overall satisfaction for the Unit significantly improved after we revamped the Unit using the Guroo learning tools. The SETU score has increased every semester, and we received feedback that the modules were engaging and interactive and contributed to accomplishing the intended learning outcomes!
