This visualisation shows the amount of brushing performed by each participant for each task in seconds, broken down between if it was Private or Shared.
The aim of this visualisation was to see if participants adjusted their use of brushing over time to use more of one mode or the other.
It is immediately clear that only a few groups ever used brushing and linking, hence the lack of discussion in the manuscript.
For some groups, the reason for this was quite clear: they wanted more complex functionality tied to brushing, such as filtering out their current selection. These comments were often as a result of them trying to use it in the first place—specifically seen for groups 2, 3 and 4.
While it is difficult to draw any conclusions as to the balance between privacy modes due to the lack of use, G3 shifted from using shared brushing a lot in DT3, to not using it at all in FET as they utilised a divide and conquer approach.
