The study involves approximately 13 days of involvement. This is divided into 3 sections:
Section 1: Day 1-7. You will be required to monitor your sleep by completing a short sleep diary each morning (link will be sent via text) and wearing a watch that measures activity. This watch will need to be worn for the entire duration of the experiment. During this period, you will also be required to go to bed within a 30 minute window between the hours of 10:00pm-12 midnight and get out of bed within a 30 minute window between the hours of 6:00-9:00am.
Section 2: On Day 8 of the experiment, you will be required to wake up 2 hours before your normal wake time and spend 6 hours in the lab to complete cognitive tasks and watch a film. The exact timing depends on your sleep schedule; however, this may be around the times of 7am to 1:00pm. During this time, for a 2.5-hour period you will be allocated to a nap or wake period. If allocated to the wake period, you will be able to engage in certain activities (e.g. colouring in, puzzles etc).
Section 3: On Days 9-13, you will be completing a cognitive task (20 mins long) and a short questionnaire (less than 5 mins) each day in your home. The 20 minute cognitive task will need to be completed between the hours of 2-5pm each day for five days. On Day 13, you will also complete a memory task. You will continue to wear the watch and fill out the sleep diary each day.
